1. An umpire, arbitrator. Also in n.Eng. dial.wm.Sc. 1868 Laird of Logan 463:
Mr Belfrage, seeing his brother puzzled, became daysman.

2. A day-labourer.Sc. 1893 “L. Keith” 'Lisbeth II. vi.:
They spoke of other things, be sure, than of poor Elizabeth and her daysman's burden.
