DEATHIN, Deaffin, n. Water-hemlock, Cicuta virosa (Rxb. 1825 Jam.2, deathin).Fif. 1845 Stat. Acc.2 IX. 48:
Cicuta virosa, L. — Provincially called deaffin or deathin, peculiarly obnoxious to cows.

[Death + deriv. suff. -in(g): the form deaffin may be due to the influence of Deaffy, adj., 3. = numb, paralysed, from the effects of the herb, or to the interchange of th and f(f), as in Douth and Dowf, Frath and Freff, etc.]
