DEPOSIT(ATION), n. Sc. law: “a contract, by which a subject, belonging to one person, is intrusted to the gratuitous custody of another, to be redelivered on demand” (Sc. 1890 Bell Dict. Law Scot. 315).Sc. 1754 J. Erskine Princ. Law Scot. iii. i. 10:
This contract of deposit being gratuitous, the depositary is only answerable for the consequences of gross neglect.
