DERRIN, Derran, Dern, n. “A broad thick cake or loaf of oat or barley meal, or of the flour of pease and barley mixed, baked in the oven, or on the hearth covered with hot ashes” (Rxb. 1825 Jam.2, derrin); “a large-sized flour-loaf of a particular shape” (Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B., derran, dern(-loaf); Rxb. 1942 Zai).
