DIMIT, v. To dismiss, let go. Obs. in Eng. since 16th cent.Sc. a.1714 in Earls of Crm. (ed. Fraser 1876) II. 468:
He procured his liberty from his brother, on condition that he should resigne his tack in McKenzie's favours; on which termes he wes dimitted.

[Dimit is found in above sense in O.Sc. from 1562; Lat. dimittere.]
