EID, Ed, n. An isthmus, or narrow neck of land jutting out into the sea; a sandbank cast up by the sea across the head of a wik having a lagoon inside it (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl.; 1908 Jak. (1928), ed; 1914 Angus Gl.). Now surviving only in placenames (Sh.11 1948). The Ork. form is Aith (Ork.1 1942).
