FELT, n.3 The name given to various birds of the Turdidae family: the fieldfare, Turdus pilaris (Ant. 1907 Northern Whig (30 Nov.)). Also in Eng. dial.; the redwing, Turdus musicus (Uls. 1880 Patterson Gl.). In comb. felt-hopper, the missel-thrush, Turdus viscivorus (Wgt. 1950).Uls. 1880 Patterson Gl.:
The fieldfare is here called the "large blue felt."

Mistle-Thrush . . . this species is often confounded with the Fieldfare and called Feltyfare or Felt.
