FIANDIN, n. Also fiendin (Jam.), fjandi(n) (Jak.), fjanden, fyanden. The devil (Sh. 1825 Jam., 1910 Old-Lore Misc. III. i. 39, fjandin). Used euphemistically (Sh. 1932 J. M. Saxby Sh. Trad. Lore 180). [′fjɑndin]

[O.N. fjándi, fiend, devil. The -n is the O.N. def. art. But cf. also Du. vijaandin, id.]
