GALAT, GALLET, n. A term of endearment, gen. addressed to a girl (Mry. 1825 Jam.; Inv.1 c.1900; Mry.1 1925; Arg. 1953). Gael. [′gɑlət]Abd. (Braemar) 1912 Scotsman (26 Jan.):
An oldish woman to her daughters as they were sitting round the remains of a peat fire . . . "Sit back, galats, or ye'll be scaldit."
