GALLAN-WHALE, n. comb. A species of whale, see quot.w.Sc. 1703 M. Martin Western Islands 5:
There is one sort of Whale remarkable for its Greatness, which the Fishermen distinguish from all others by the Name of the Gallan-Whale; because they never see it but at the Promontory of that Name [Gallan Head in Lewis].
