†GALLIVANT, v. Sc. tr. usage: to play the gallant to, to flirt with. Cf. Eng. gallant, id.Sc. 1896 “L. Keith” Indian Uncle xv.:
A man may be forgiven for losing his wits when he has two bonnie young lasses to gallivant!
Hence gallivanter, an incurable flirt (s.Sc. 1900 E.D.D.).
