GAMREL, n.1 Also †gamerel, †gomeril. The pointed or notched piece of wood placed between the legs of a carcase to keep them apart and facilitate cutting up by the butcher (s.Sc. 1887 Jam., gomeril, Kcb.1 1931). Also in Eng. dial.Peb. 1817 R. Brown Lintoun Green 63:
Gleg lookan' now, frae side to side, . . . Wi' gab, and een, baith gamerel wide.
