GASHLY, adj. Ghastly (Ags.18 1952). Used adv. in second quot. Also in m. and s.Eng. dial.Kcb. 1911 G. M. Gordon Clay Biggin' 146:
I hae haird folk talk o' what they ca'ed the Majesty o' deith, bit i' this case there wasna muckle o' that, naething bit its terrors, an' thae o' the maist gashly sort.
Ags. 1932 Scots Mag. (Feb.) 364:
I saw that Mr Patrick had grown gashly white.
