GAZETTE WRITER, n. comb. A writer for the official Edinburgh Gazette, a journal issued by authority twice a week and containing lists of Government appointments and promotions, names of bankrupts and other public notices, a sinecure office under the Crown, abolished in 1819.Sc. 1807 Annual Register 241–2:
Another appointment made by the late administration was that of gazette-writer created by patent for Scotland with a salary of £300 per annum.
