I. n. A hook for catching fisb, used by poachers (s.Sc. 1954). Freq. in phr. a set o' gegs.Rxb. 1901 R. Murray Hawick Char. 10:
They poach . . . Wi' their nets and their leisters, their bowats and gegs.

II. v. To poach a fish by means of a geg.Ib.:
He dreamed he was geggin' a fish off the redd.
