GENER, n. A Sc. form of Eng. gender (Sc. 1911 S.D.D.; Cai.7, Abd., Uls.4 1954). See P.L.D. §64. Also Sc. usage: offspring, progeny, gen. in phr. puddock's gener(s), frogspawn, tadpoles (Fif. 1975). Also transf., of the green slime found on a boat's keel (Ags. 1975, gender). Obs. in Eng. in this sense in 17th c. [′dʒɛnər]Fif. 1864 W. D. Latto T. Bodkin iv.: 
A certain kind o' pills, whereof the principal component pairts were the filin's o' partan taes, puddock's gener, an' bitter aloes.
