GEVENACE, n. Also juvangis. A fish of the salmon or trout kind, family Coregonus. See also Vendace, id.Dmf. c.1700 in Dmf. & Gall. Antiq. Soc. (1901) 54:
Here is the King's Castle of Lochmaben . . . strengthened by a Loch surrounding it, where the fishes called venaces and gevenaces are talked of in nowhere else in our country. They are pleasant white fishes.
Dmf. 1777 J. Lightfoot Flora Scotica I. 61:
Guiniad. Found in Loch-Mabon; called in those parts the Vendace, and Juvangis.
