GOUKMEY, n. A name given on the Firth of Forth to the grey gurnard, Trigla gurnardus (m.Lth. 1811 Wernerian Soc. Mem. 14). Also goukney, gowk- (Sc. 1905 A. R. Forbes Gael. Names 366).Abd. 1875 G. Macdonald Malcolm I. ix.:
There's a fine haddie, an' a bonny sma' coddie, an' a goukmey.
