GOZEN, Gosen, v., tr. To dry partially in the wind, esp. of fish hung up to dry outside or in a specially constructed stone shed (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), 1914 Angus Gl.). Ppl.adj. gosen(d), wind-dried, of fish (Jak.).Sh. 1899 J. Spence Folk-Lore 177:
Fish for home consumption was seldom salted, but preserved in various ways, such as . . . gozened.

[Ad. Norw. dial. gosa, to steam, reek, evaporate, the finite form in -en being a formation from the more commonly used pres. ppl. gosen, Norw. gosend.]
