GÜDIE, GØDI, n. Liver-oil used in the old-fashioned open lamp or collie (see Collie, n.2); “liver-oil collected on decayed fish-livers” (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), gødi s.v. gøti), used as manure (Sh. 1955). [′g(j)ødi]Sh. 1879 Shetland Times (12 April):
More than one of the collies were upset, and several of the company copiously anointed with the güdie.
