HEVEL, n. Also hevil, hevvel and dim. hevlek (Jak.). The handle of a pail or bucket (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., hevil, 1914 Angus Gl., hevvel). Also used attrib. in comb. hev(v)el-daffock, -daffik, a pail with a handle (Ib.). Cf. Daffick.Sh. 1877 G. Stewart Fireside Tales 211:
She ran to the hevel daffock for a little water to sprinkle on Lelah's face.
