HIDDIEKIDDIE, n. Wit, sense, mental stability. Also used in pl. = wits.Abd.7 1925:
“He was frichtent near oot o's hiddiekiddie” they say, when they refer to his wits or his senses.
Abd.4 1928:
Yer belly gyangs atween ye an' yer hiddie kiddies. (Said to children complaining of hunger. The belly before the head.).
Abd. 1932 R. L. Cassie Scots Sangs 23:
Noo, this bit darg will dee the day, We maunna be rig-widdie, Or freen an' fae will hae tae pray, Tae haud their hiddie-kiddie.

[Appar. a humorous reduplicative deriv. of Heid, phs. used as in child's words. Cf. chin-cherry, mou-merry.]
