HOG-SHOUTHER, v. To push or jostle with the shoulder, shove about (Sc. 1808 Jam.). Ppl.adj. hog-showtherin', pushing, jostling.Ayr. 1786 Burns To W. Simpson xvi.:
Hog-shouther, jundie, stretch an' strive.
Fif. 1827 W. Tennant Papistry Storm'd 203:
A howdle o' hog-showtherin' freirs.

Hence used as a n. as the name of a game in which the players jostle one another (Ayr. 1787 Burns Poems Gl.).
