HOOB, n. Also hub. The land at the head of a small landlocked bay or creek exposed at ebb-tide, sometimes having a small stream running into it (Sh. 1866 Edm. Gl., hoob, 1908 Jak. (1928), hub); the bay itself, a lagoon (Jak.), now gen. recognised only as a place-name (Sh. 1957). The pl. is also used as a sing. [hub]
