HORNECK, n. Also hornic. The earth-nut, Bunium flexuosum (Sc. 1886 B. & H. 268). Cf. Ornock.Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 234:
Gourlins — The black bulbous roots of an herb with a white bushy flower, good to eat, called Hornecks in some parts of Scotland.
Kcb. 1896 A. J. Armstrong Kirkiebrae ii.:
The lassie's awa to the hill, an' the auld man's up the water side howkin' for hornics.
