INTERVAL, n. Sc. usage: the period of time between morning and afternoon church services (Sc. 1902 E.D.D.; Ork. 1958).Sc. 1871 W. Black Daughter of Heth iv.:
After the “interval”, as it was technically called, they had to go to church again.
Rnf. 1873 D. Gilmour Pen' Folk 22:
The boys . . . stated very explicitly that the “intervals” were more to their liking than “kirk-time.”
