JIFF, n. Also deriv. jiffer (Abd. 1919 T.S.D.C. III.; ne.Sc. 1959) and dim. jiffy. A person of doubtful reputation, a shady character (Ib.). Used attrib. in jiff-wife, a female vagrant (Abd.15 1924). [dʒɪf]Abd.7 1925:
“She's a gey jiffy yon”, will be said of a woman whose conduct has not been good.
Abd. 1928 N. Shepherd Quarry Wood xi.:
Some gey ordinary jiffs, she thought.
