JIRP, v., n. [I.Sc. tʃɪrp]
I. v. To make a squelching noise when wet; to become sodden (I.Sc. 1959).Ork. 1912 Old-Lore Misc. V. ii. 55:
When the straw bedding of young calves was all wet or “jirpan wi' weet” it was said to be “a' i a sirpis”.
II. n. The sound made by shoes worn when full of water (I.Sc. 1959).
