KERRO, n. A fisherman's tabu-name for a spinning-wheel (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), 1914 Angus Gl.). [′kɛro]Sh. 1949 Scots Mag. (Nov.) 131:
A complicated esoteric language was evolved which the fishermen used while at sea . . . the spinning wheel [was called] the kerro.
