KNAPWOOD, n. Also kne(i)pwood. = Knappell, q.v.Inv. 1715 Steuart Letter Bk. (S.H.S.) 5:
I have likeways Acct. of 90 ps. knapwood shipped for my Acct. in said shipp amounting to 72: 22 gr.
Inv. 1718 Steuart Letter Bk. (S.H.S.) 73:
Six slock of Knepwood, and as many barell staves and pipe Staves as the Ship can hold . . . Besides the Iron and kneipwood, the ship may take in about 2400 barell and pipe staves.
