KRANYO, n. Also kronyo. A twisted, confused heap, gen. in phr. in a kranyo (Ork. 1929 Marw., Ork. 1960). [′krɑnjo]Ib.:
Of a stack blown down — “it was a' lyan in a kranyo.” . . . I have also heard the word used descriptively of a person much crippled by rheumatism.

[Immediate orig. uncertain, but prob. ultimately from the Teut. root *kreng-, something bent or curving, a ring, circle. Cf. Norw. dial. krengja, to turn upside down or awry, kranglen, twisted, crooked, Dan. krænge, to invert, Du. krengen, to heel over. Cf. Krane, v.]
