LINDER, n.1 Also linner. [′lɪndər; ne.Sc. + ′lɪnər]

1. A kind of long woollen jacket or cardigan.Abd. 1778 Aberdeen Jnl. (9 March):
A Blue short Coat, Blue Breeches, a White Linder, and a Blue and White striped Woolen Waistcoat below the Linder.
Sc. 1791 T. Newte Tour 176:
The lasses in Scotland, as in France, wear waistcoats or linders, reaching no farther down than the waist-band of the petticoat.
Ags. 1825 Jam.:
Linder. A short gown, shaped like a man's vest, with sleeves, worn by both old women and by children. This garment, which is generally made of blue woollen cloth, sits close to the body. and has a number of flaps or skirts all round, hanging down about six inches from the waist. The tradition in Angus is, that it was borrowed from the Danes and has been in use since the period of their invasions.

A linder coorse, cut out of hodin gray Neist to his skin as white's the paper lay.

Ah've haen nae peace ava sin' the wife pat ma intae ma new flannen linner, dampt yockie thing.
