LUFFER, n. A lull or quieter period in a gale or storm (Ork. 1929 Marw.; Mry. 1961).Ork. 1930 Orcadian (13 Feb.):
You have linner and luffer as the higher and lower blasts respectively in a big storm. In these hilly regions we always called the high blasts lunders, and the lower luffers.
