LUNGKILN, n. Also lungkillin (Jak.); lungklo (Ib.). A pile or bundle of heather, gen. one of cut heather set up to dry (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928)). [′lʌŋkəl]Sh. 1879 Shetland Times (29 March):
The only opening in the wall, . . . was, owing to the inclemency of the weather, stuffed up with lungkilns.

[The first element is Norw., O.N. lyng, heather, the second a reduced form of Norw. dial., Faer. kylling(ur), a small haystack, or Icel. kló, heather-tuft.]
