[An unrounded ppl. form of *muil(d)en, deriv. of muild, Eng. mould, to become mouldy, in which the phonological development has followed that of Muild, n.1, v.1, = mould, earth (see note s.v.). E.M.E. has moulden, ppl.adj., mouldy, of bread.]
