MOUP, v.2 Sc. variant of Eng. mope, but confused with Moup, v.1, 2., Mout, v., 2. To fail in health, to have a wasted or pining look (Uls. 1963). Ppl.adj. moupit, wasted, as if through illness.Sc. 1825 Jam.:
He's beginnin to moup, he begins to fall off. He looks moupit-like, he resembles what has been nibbled or frittered away.
