OFFLET, n. Also -lett. A channel for letting water run away. Not recorded in Eng. till 19th c.Abd. 1744 Monymusk Papers (S.H.S.) 141:
In wet spouty grounds, there should be drains cutt from the springs, etc., to an offlett and round stones throwen in.
