OLGER, n. Also oilger, olga. Liquid manure in a byre (Sh. 1908 Jak. (1928), Sh. 1964). [′ɔilgə(r)]Sh. 1949 J. Gray Lowrie 54:
“Weel, boy, saa doo him gettin onything?” “He! He micht as weel been tryin' among da green oilger i' da graeff o' wir bank.”

[Prob. a reduced form of olgrof, id., which Jak. records for North Shetland. Cf. Dan. dial. ajlegrob, id., from ajle, urine, + grob, channel. See note to Golgrav (and Suppl.) which seems to be a variant. The transference of meaning is by metonymy. See also Oller.]
