OUTEN, n. In the game of boar-hunt: those players who act as the boars and can roam at large.Edb. 1898 J. Baillie Walter Crighton 167:
“I'll take Wright.” “I'll take “Speckie” Walker,” and so on, until they were all ten-a-side, after which it was “sherps or ends for the outens” (or the privilege of being the boars).
