OUTEND, adj. A name applied to the left-hand horse in a four-horse plough-team (Ork. 1845 Stat. Acc.2 XV. 96). See fur s.v. Furr, n., 6. (4) and (5).Ork. 1868 D. Gorrie Orkneys 299:
When ponies were used, the first or right hand one was called the fur horse, the second the fur-scam, the third the volar-scam, and the fourth the outend horse.
