OYSTER, n. Sc. comb. oyster plant, the sea-side smooth gromwell, Mertensia maritima, the leaves of which taste like oysters (Sh., Arg. 1886 B. and H. 364).Sc. 1858 R. Hogg Vegetable Kingdom 542:
Mertensia maritima is a native of the sandy sea-coasts of Scotland and the north of England, where it is called Oyster Plant.
