PAIRTNER, n. Gen.Sc. form and usages of Eng. partner. As in Eng. Deriv. pa(i)rtnery, n., partnership. Phr. to be partners with, to be the partner of. [′pertnər]Edb. 1739 Caled. Mercury (12 April):
He is informed that there is a Person going about the Country who pretends he is in Copartnery with him.
Sc. 1800 Monthly Mag. I. 238:
“A is partners with B,” means that A is partner to B, or rather A is B's partner.
Arg. 1918 N. Munro Jaunty Jock 141:
In a beseeching tone that told the nature of their partnery, “Am I richt or am I wrang, Jennet?”
