PAULE, n. Also paul. Heriot's Hospital slang: half of the Dose or portion of bread allotted to each boy per meal.Edb. 1845 F. W. Bedford Heriot's Hosp. (1859) 345:
We may hain a paule at dinner time, and anither at four o'clock, and that will be equal to a dose.
