†PEENJURE, v., n. Also pingeor, pinjure.
I. v. To hamper, confine (Ayr. 1825 Jam.).
II. n. Deep thought, meditation (Rnf. a.1850 Crawfurd MSS. (N.L.S.) P. 37, pingeor, -jure).
[The two meanings have been put together because of similarity of form, though the semantic connection is not explicable. The evidence for either is in any case very dubious and the word has no obvious etymology.]
