PIPPLE-PAPPLE, v. To make a pattering sound. Also used adv., hippety-hop, pitter-patter. Cf. papple, Pap, v.Ayr. 1816 A. Boswell Poet. Wks. (1871) 151:
Peter the gauger, himsel, Whiles comes pipple papple in.
Abd. 1903 E.D.D.:
The hailstones came down pipple-papplin' on the sky-light of the house.
