PLEENGIE, n. Also plingie. A sea-gull (Abd., Kcd. 1966), specif. the young herring gull, Larus argentatus (Kcd. 1825 Jam.). Also in shortened form pleeng (Kcd. 1950). [′pliŋi]Abd. 1963 Evening Express (28 Feb.):
“We used to be greatly troubled with seagulls' droppings seizing up the working of the crane,” he said. “Now the plingies seem to be keeping clear.”

[Prob. chiefly imit. of its call. as in Plee, but assimilated to plenyie, plainyie, s.v. Pleen, to mourn, whine.]
