PLOD, v. Sc. usages: 1. ppl.adj. plodding, in Mining, of a seam of coal or the like: irregular, varying in size and formation (Sc. 1886 J. Barrowman Mining Terms 51); 2. intensive form plodder, to toil ceaselessly, drudge, slave (Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 384).
