PORTOBELLO ENGLISH, n.comb. A jocular name for an affected pseudo-English type of pronunciation reputed to be common among the inhabitants of Portobello, a residential suburb of Edinburgh (Lth. 1950). Cf. Kelvinside, pan-loaf s.v. Pan, n.1, Pink, Princes Street, etc.
