PUDDER, n. A variant of Eng. pother, a confused noise, an uproar, disturbance; transf., a verbal commotion, fuss. Now only dial. in Eng. It is doubtful whether this is a genuine Sc. usage.Sc. 1816 Scott Antiquary xv.:
Poor Davie lifted up his voice and wept aloud. The pony, hearing this pudder over his head . . . commenced a retrograde movement towards Fairport.
Fif. 1827 W. Tennant Papistry Storm'd 202:
They drew their swerds, and, in a pudder, Attack't it fierce as fire or fudder.
