PUNNIE, n. A type of crochet hook (see quot.).Mry., Bnff. a.1920 Sc. Home & Country (March 1959) 84:
My granny and mother made gloves and knee-length stockings with a cleek, only they called it a “punnie”. Whenever the weather called for warm footwear, out came the punnie, and a stocking could be started and finished in a matter of hours. Had the “punnie” got lost during summer's rest, my mother made another. She bought a small-toothed comb, softened it in hot water, shaped it, polished it, and it was ready for use.

[Local variant form of pinnie, a little pin.]
